How to Measure for Curtains

Before starting, make sure you record all sizes in either inches or centimetres and never mix the two.  Always use a metal tape measure to ensure accurate sizes are recorded.

First of all measure the width.

For an existing curtain track, measure the width A above. If you need to fit a new track, we recommend that the track should extend beyond the recess of the window by 12cm to 15cm and be fitted above the window recess by 12cm to 15cm

If your track has an overlap, measure the track as above, then measure the overlap and add the two together. (A+B)

For a pole, measure between the decorative finial ends.

Now Measure the Drop

Decide first of all if you want a full length drop A (we recommend that curtains clear your floor by 1cm), just past the sill B, or on the sill C.

You should also measure the drop in 3 separate positions as not all windows are perfectly aligned.  Also never assume that two windows will have the same measurements, even if they look identical

For eyelet or tab top curtains, measure from the top of the pole to where you want them to finish, and we will calculate the overall drop of the curtains.

How to Measure for Blinds

Before starting, decide whether you want your blinds in the recess or outside the window, make sure you take into account anything that may impede the smooth operation of your blind (e.g. window handles) and always use a metal tape measure in order to record accurate measurements.

Measure the recess width in 3 separate places and record the smallest size.  Do not allow for clearance, we will do this for you.

Measure the recess drop in 3 separate places and record the smallest size.

Decide which side you want all control cords, chains, etc to hang from.

For vertical blinds, decide whether you want your blind to bunch to the left, right, split or centre.

Measure your overall width of your blind (usually 6cm to 8cm past the recess on either side).

Do the same for the blind drop.
